A small flock of (admittedly spoiled) bluebirds comes to my deck daily for
mealworms on my whistled cue. The core of the flock seems to consist of the
pair that has nested in the yard nestbox and the offspring from their last
clutch.

Today I was hiking high up on the gas pipeline (about a mile away from the
house). I saw a flock of Eastern Bluebird in the treetops and just out of
curiosity, I whistled. I never expected a response.

The entire flock flew in quite low, called with a feeding chatter, and
followed me for about one half a mile. Definitely the deck bluebirds!

I did felt very bad to false promises, and hope the bluebirds will forgive
me this once. The next time I hike the pipeline, I'll bring along a snack
of mealworms (just in case).
