Late morning on Dec 22 after twitching the grosbeak in Denton, I went to see the reported EUWI at Bayside.  I was especially interested in seeing it, since it appeared to be an unusual-looking bird from the photo posted.  I dipped, though the pond was full of the usual suspects.    While checking and rechecking the dabbling ducks, I noticed that the wigeons were closely associating with coots.   As I watched closer, I saw that the wigeons were following the coots, waiting for them to dive.  When the coot surfaced with acquatic vegetation in its bill, the duck helped its self to the food.  This happened pretty regularly, especially in the NW corner of the pond.  This was repeated in about a dozen different places, with different coots and wigeons.  The coots did not appear too perturbed by the ducks stealing their food and only made weak attempts to keep the all food to themselves.   One of the neat things about birding is that you can
see something new -- even in common birds.
