Hi all,

We were out scouting today for the Sugarloaf CBC (Monday Jan 2) in our
sector, which includes Lilypons Water Gardens. In Lilypons, the numbers
of sparrows is still low and we couldn't locate any Am. Tree Sparrows,
although they are undoubtedly around (we have had them 2-3x in last
month). Hopefully Monday they will be more cooperative. The Am. Bittern
seen earlier in Dec. was not located, it may well have moved on. Best bird
was a MARSH WREN in one of the reedy impoundments as well as a
Phoebe near the main house. Also, quite a few Swamp Sparrows. The
Claggett Center had some White-crowned Sparrows but was also rather
quiet.

The most "action" was at the corner of Oland Rd. and Rt 85, as well as
(diagonally) across from that corner in a corn stubble field on Lilypons
Rd.
-- we had at least 400 Horned Larks between the 2 fields, and there were
at least three LAPLAND LONGSPURS in the flock.

We also drove the loops of New Design, Rt. 28, Rt. 80 etc. and saw very
few raptors and NO Kestrels, despite all the kestrel boxes. A first and not
a good sign...

A brief stop at the Rt. 121 bridge at Black Hills yielded about the same
species as Anna Urciolo reported but we did see a pair of Common
Goldeneye. No sign of the unusual one reported yesterday.
