This morning I started my Carroll County annual list at Piney Run Park
as usual. Unusual was to see at least twelve other birders there at
different times. All were searching for the putative Barnacle Goose. My
list for the morning included these waterbirds:

Canada Goose 350, including one speckle-headed bird
Tundra Swan 4, probably the same two adults with two immaturesthat have
been there a few weeks
Gadwall 4
Baldpate 13
Black Duck 17
Mallard 25
Redhead 1 male
Ring-necked Duck 20
Bufflehead 9
Hooded Merganser 80
Common Merganser 11
Ruddy Duck 20
Pied-billed Grebe 12
Great Blue Heron 3
Bald Eagle 1 adult
Coot 35
Ring-billed Gull 10

Other people mentioned other birds to me. At the time I was there many
geese were probably feeding outside the park in local fields. Overall I
made a good start with 28 species for my walk.
