Hi all,

I birded various places over the weekend, spending Saturday on the Eastern
Shore and Sunday around Point Lookout most of the day. Highlights from
Saturday included 4 SEDGE WRENs along Maple Dam Road, one of the continuing
KUMLIEN'S GULLs at the Salisbury Landfill, and a YELLOW WARBLER found by
Jim Stasz and Ed Boyd in Vienna, I tried for and missed the Western
Kingbird at Hurlock in the afternoon.

Highlights from Sunday at Point Lookout included one of the most impressive
concentrations of RED-THROATED LOONs that I have ever seen sitting on the
water, with a total of 793 individuals at the mouth of the Potomac they
were literally everywhere, it looked like a majority were feeding, I am not
sure what forage would be there in such a concentration at this time of
year to attract that many loons, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear
them! There were also good numbers of SURF and BLACK SCOTERs with only a
single WHITE-WINGED seen. The conditions in the morning were ideal for
scoping and counting with calm water and very little temperature
distortion. The Phrag pond at the point held the continuing SORA as well
as a single VIRGINIA RAIL and 5 MARSH WRENs. Another great weekend to be
out!!
