The short-eared owls near Taneytown were out and about yesterday evening. We arrived around 4:30 and at that time there was one northern harrier (female) cruising the field. There was also a fox sighted. The first owl appeared at about 4:55 pm. We saw at least 3 owls and possibly 4. They flew, they perched, they vocalized and at one point there was a small confrontation between 2 of them. Really pretty sunset to go along with the show. They stayed near the high point ("the ridge") in the field, so they were pretty far away, but a decent view through binoculars and a great view through the scopes. Too far for detailed photos but I managed an ok sunset silhouette, viewable at this link (you'll need to copy & paste):
