After dipping on Barnacle Goose on Saturday, was very nice to go to the Buckingham Road area and have birders motion me to a scope which was trained on the Goose. The area was on Buckingham Road but above the Boat Ramp and on the left (if headed toward the Boat Ramp) in a field with a large flock of Canada Geese. Three young men from Pennsylvania were there on the last leg of a group "rarity roundup" which had taken them through Pennsylvania and New Jersey, now into Maryland, then back into Pennsylvania seeing rare and, in some cases, life birds. They told me that they had been watching the Barnacle Goose through the scope and that when it picked up its feet they could see that both hind toes were visible and there were no leg bands. They also saw it fly. A Greater White-fronted Goose paid a short visit, but flew off just before I got there.
What a beautiful bird!
