Hi Tom,

No joy in Mudville. I was at the wharf from 7am until about 11:30am when
the last geese flew off (good opportunity to pick out a Barnacle in flight
heading for the fields) and the only thing left was a string of Canada
decoys in the distance.

I left about 2:50pm after making multiple rounds of three locations with
multiple geese feeding (mostly head down).

The only other birders were a young couple who looked for about an hour and
a John Swartz from Annapolis who looked for a couple of hours in
coordination with me (he had earlier seen the immature male Chaffinch in
NJ).

Too many geese and not eyes. And maybe the Barnacle has moved on.

Tom, nice talking to you today.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Barnacle Goose not seen this AM from 7:30 - 9:30

Hi,

I tried for the Barnacle Goose this morning from 7:30 - 9:30 and was not
successful in locating the bird. There were many geese there, most of them
far away and the light wasn't great - I was surprised how much shimmer there
was on such a cold day. I wasn't that surprised to miss the goose because
more than half of the birds were so far away and it could have easily been
hiding among them. I located a White-fronted Goose, but only on my third
pass over the geese and because I saw a bit of pink leg sticking out below a
Canada Goose, and that was in one of the closer groups. But I am
disheartened to hear it was seen flying away - does anyone know the details
of this? I expect to try again for the goose on Saturday.

Joe Byrnes was there when I arrived and when I left - perhaps he had better
luck? Joe - If you see this, and you have warmed up enough to allow you to
type, please let us know if he showed himself.

Thanks,
Tom

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Any Barnacle Goose Sightings?

I'd like to maybe try again over the weekend. I see no sighting on MDOsprey
nor on eBird today. I'm informed the bird flew off possibly northwest. For
good?
