Hi Everyone,
A very large flock of Canada Geese (200+) have been hanging out at McMillan Reservoir for the last month. I've suspected that some of the smaller ones could be Cackling Geese, but never saw any that had all the field marks (bill size, head shape, neck length, and overall size) to call them good Cacklings.
But today, I had a small group of 7 moving through the throngs of Canada Geese right by the fence and they all had good field markings for Cackling Geese.
Surprisingly, I couldn't find the nearly resident Ring-necked Ducks, but they could have been sleeping out of sight in the little southeastern cove. The consolation prize was a HORNED GREBE swimming around that same distant cove.
Good Birding!
