Earlier today I was working in Calvert and Charles Counties. As I approached a new elementary school in Charles, I noticed hundreds (if not a thousand or more) gulls in the new development called Sheffield, just East of Waldorf, off of Billingsly (north of the road). I did a u-turn and took a moment to scan the flock.

It makes sense that these new development ponds would be a gull hot spot, as the dump is a very short flight to the East.

Sadly, there are a dozen or so homes that are just covered in full droppings, so I'd suspect the community is none too pleased with the incredible numbers of gulls now spending their days here.

Today's brief scan didn't turn up anything rare, but perhaps consider visiting this spot the next time you're birding in Charles County?

I added my sightings to eBird and suggested this location as a hotspot, labeling it the 'Sheffield Development Ponds'.
