I know this is not a rare bird sighting, but I wanted to post this to see if there are other organizations or individuals who may be interested in participating.

The District of Columbia was chosen as one of 10 cities that will receive funding as part of the Urban Conservation Treaty for Migratory Birds (Urban Bird Treaty) grant program. The District Department of the Environment is looking for partners to develop and implement bird conservation projects as part of this grant program. Partners can be private citizens, as well as federal, state, and municipal agencies and non-governmental organizations.
If you are interested in participating as a partner in this grant, please join us on Tuesday, March 13 at 1pm to talk about the Urban Bird Treaty and possible projects and programs.

The Urban Bird Treaty is a program working with cities and partners to conserve migratory birds through education, hazard reductions, citizen science, conservation actions, and conservation and habitat improvement strategies in urban/suburban areas. The program has six main goals and objectives:

• Job 1 - Protect, restore, create, and enhance urban/suburban habitats for birds
• Job 2 - Reduce hazards to migrating and urban/suburban birds
• Job 3 - Educate and engage citizens in monitoring, caring about, and advocating for birds and their conservation
• Job 4 - Foster youth environmental education with a focus on birds
• Job 5 - Manage invasive species to benefit and protect birds
• Job 6 – Increase awareness of the value of migratory birds and their habitats, especially for their intrinsic, ecological, recreational, and economic significance
