Yesterday, 2/27, went over to Hughes Hollow around 5:15 pm and later at
6:05 relocated to Sycamore Landing Rd in hopes of seeing a woodcock.
Hughes Hollow was rather quiet duck wise. Was hoping to see some Hoodies or
Wood ducks flying in to Buttonbush swamp to roost for night. But not a
single duck flew over. There were 4 Ring-necks in the east side impoundment
and a few Wood Ducks could be heard calling from Buttonbush swamp. Lots of
Red-winged Blackbirds. Right around 6 pm mixed groups of male and female
Red-wings relocated from tallest tree tops and settled into the cattails in
the west side impoundment.
Over at Sycamore Landing Rd, only heard 1 woodcock "peent" a few times
around 6:25. No display flight. A few small groups of American Wigeon flew
over as well, thankfully calling in flight so I could ID them as there only
enough light for silhouettes at this point.
