A first for us in the last three years:  A pair of boisterous Red-shouldered Hawks are frequenting our yard, which is tiny: about 1/10 of an acre.  Today I was out starting the garden beds for an early spring, and I heard them in the trees overhead.  They took off an lighted on a nest in the neighbor's yard, well within perfect scoping views from our back sliding glass door!  I also heard what sounded like peeping coming from the nest, so these birds may well have hatchlings already.  I'm looking forward to teaching my neighbor's 8-year old Great Grandson, who visits us regularly, all about this pair this spring.  He will be very excited to see these dynamic birds up close and personal.
