On our Centennial Lake walk on 3/11 there is a domestic Mallard sitting on eggs. She rejected one of the eggs and it is near the nest. The nest is near the amphitheater.

Chris, 
   Your sighting is extraordinarily early indeed. The earliest egg date I 
have in the database for Maryland is March 12, 1964 in Prince George's 
County with the earliest full clutch (14 eggs) on March 20, 1949 in 
Montgomery County. The earliest date for downy young I have is March 25, 
1990 in Prince George's County and in DC it is April 6, 2002 at KAG. I 
suspect there may be earlier dates that have gone unreported.
