Tyler,
The previous early egg date for House Finch is March 26 during the first
breeding bird atlas.
By the way, the safe dates do not refer directly to the time when a
species is nesting. The safe dates represented our best estimate of the
period when the species is not migrating or dispersing. Therefore, it is
probably safe to consider a bird is a breeder if seen or heard during that
period. Most species also can be found breeding outside the safe dates and
many confirmations were made that way. It's not a perfect system but it
helped by eliminating the need to track down details on many reports of
likely migrants just outside the safe dates.
