Hi Everyone,
A late afternoon run around Fort Smallwood provided an unexpected highlight for me, a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL flying north right up the Bay at sunset. They were my first from the park and from a non-motorized outing from my house. Others worth mentioning were two MUTE SWANs, two RING-NECKED DUCKs, and four CHIPPING SPARROWs. My impression is that Chipping Sparrows really arrived in numbers in my neighborhood last night. I had two singing in the neighborhood and two in Weinberg park this morning, these being my first of the year locally. Non-avian sightings on the peninsula today included GRAY FOX, COMMON MUSKRAT, a large COMMON SNAPPING TURTLE crossing the road, and a small roadkill NORTHERN WATER SNAKE.
Good birding,
Bill
