more Violettes C&O: horned grebes, common loon, palm warbler

I waited for better light in the afternoon and found the black-crowned night heron mentioned by Jared Fisher perched above Seneca Creek. Below Riley's Lock I photographed 8 horned grebes in various degrees of molting into their breeding plumage. Red-breasted mergansers numbered >30. Also 4 ring-necked and a pair for wood ducks on the Potomac

The common loon from last week is still upstream of Rileys. One palm warbler was just upstream of Rileys.
