TASTY THINGS!
Need to refuel after crossing the Bay Bridge to Kent Island? If you head south on Route 8 immediately after the bridge, there is a BP on your right that is easy to drive past. I raised an eyebrow at the sign that indicated "Gourmet Carry-out" when I walked in. However, they weren't kidding. In this BP is a Gas Station x Whole Foods hybrid, with sandwiches like my Roast Beef and Brie, takeaway items like pesto, flatbreads, and Greek yogurt, and a wine and beer collection featuring Dogfish Head and Flying Dog. On top of this, the staff was friendly and enthusiastic. I will not go hungry on Kent Island again! With all of the development and chain restaurants, I'm happy to support a small local business. Need more reason? The field across from it held HUDSONIAN GODWIT in October 2010, and there are enough cattle to lure in CATTLE EGRETs for a stop. (I still need these, so let me know when they're there!)
Good birding,
Bill
