Great Falls birdwalk

 Five of us braved the cold morning 
temperatures to bird at Gt. Falls Park, Maryland.  The bird count was not 
bad, and we enjoyed some blooming wildflowers.

 
Double-crested cormorants
Great blue herons (a dozen or more flying 
overhead)
Canada Geese
Mallard pairs
Lesser Scaup-small raft
Common merganser (gorgeous male showing off by flying in 
front of the 
                                               
viewing platform)
Black vultures
Turkey vultures
Bald eagle (one high up in the sky)
Red-tailed hawk
Mourning doves
Red-bellied woodpecker
Downy woodpecker (heard)
Northern flicker (heard)
Eastern phoebes
Tree swallows
Blue jay (heard)
American crow (heard)
Carolina chickadees
Tufted titmice
White-breaster nuthatch
Brown creeper
Carolina wrens (heard)
Golden-crowned kinglet
Eastern bluebirds
American robins
Yellow-rumped warbler
Northern cardinals
White-throated sparrow (heard)
Common grackle flocks
Brown-headed cowbird pair
American goldfinches
 
32 species
 
Wildflowers admired:  Spring Beauties, Dutchman's 
Breeches, and several small 
                                       patches 
of Virginia Bluebells in full bloom.  Also the Paw-
                                       
paws are in full bloom.
