The highlight from my morning walk around Schoolhouse Pond was a singing Yellow-throated Warbler. There was evidence of at least probable breeding behavior for YTWA last year at the pond, and at least one bird was present this morning singing vigorously in the trees along the trail at the rear of the pond. I viewed the bird as it moved from tree to tree singing in the branches right over the trail. I suspect that a second bird may have been present as well, but I was unable to confirm this. It was really a spectacular sight as the bird sang on exposed perches lit by the early morning sunlight.

There was a lot of other bird activity at the pond as well, including six flyover Great Blue Herons, one of which was carrying nesting material. Also, three Blue-winged Teal continue at the rear of the pond, along with small numbers of Wood Ducks, Mallards, and Canada Geese. There were also decent numbers of flyover gulls, although nothing too unusual. Totals included 118 Herring Gulls, 66 Ring-billed Gulls, and 28 Laughing Gulls. Other birds seen included 2 Osprey, 1 Bald Eagle, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, an Eastern Bluebird, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Towhee, and 14 Wilson's Snipe. This was my first 40+ species morning walk at the pond this spring. Good birding,
