I am posting these two messages for Hank Kaestner.
'
1. "After reading Joanne Howl's message dated Monday, March 26, about the gannets flying around the mouth of the South River, I decided to take a chance and look for them in Baltimore County. So the next morning I headed for Fort Howard, with number 333 for my Baltimore list in mind. It only took 30 minutes to observe a single adult gannet in a large flock of seagulls following a large vessel up the Bay. Later the same day (March 27) I saw a large flock of gannets just off of the Kent Island shore on the south side of the Bay bridge. The following day I saw 2 adult gannets just east of the route 50 bridge over the Choptank! This certainly is the year for gannets in the upper Bay!"

2. "It appears that common ravens have staked out the Cockeysville quarry as a potential nesting site. Over the past week I have seen at least one bird on many occasions, both soaring over the quarry, visible from I-83 northbound, as well as from Beaver Dam Road, just east of the quarry. I think this would be the most easterly nesting of the raven in Maryland IF there is a pair of birds (I've never seen two at the same time) and they set up a nest."
