A great day to be out birding was made even better when I discovered an
alternate (breeding) plumaged Little Gull at Port Tobacco Marina in
Charles County this evening. Appears to be the first county record (no
indication of a record in the Yellow Book or eBird). It was roosting on
a sand bar with about 30 Bonaparte's Gulls from about 6 to 6:30 PM. I
lost sight of it at 6:30 but did not see it fly away. It probably just
flew to an area obscured by salt marsh grasses. Some record shots here:

Also of interest were a pair of Dunlin, and several Caspian Terns. At
the nearby Rose Hill Rd. Pond was a Blue-winged Teal together with
several Gadwall.
