Thanks for the update Fred! I had to wait until after work to try again this eve, and arrived there at 6. As Fred noted, the group of shorebirds had dispersed by then and it was tough to find any but a few yellowlegs (both Gs and Ls) were occasionally viewed as they walked around in the spadderdock foraging. There were no shorebirds on any of the exposed bars or mudflats at any time while I was there. I stayed til 6:50 and then left (the park closes now at 7).

I did not see it this eve, but there is a good possibility that tomorrow the Ruff may still be around, and if we're lucky - long enough for Nico to come back to MD and have a chance at it - Get home soon Nico!

A consolation prize this eve was seeing a Tricolored heron, which may be the same one reported from Jackson Landing Monday eve. I missed it despite looking for it yesterday, and was surprised to see it tonight. I think it is a subadult in nonbreeding plumage, and if you don't look careful or have poor light it might be overlooked as a GB Heron. The bird is smaller of course, and the GB Herons are in full breeding plumage now and look fantastic. When I saw it at first I went right past it as I was scanning hard for shorebirds and not looking at much else. It was feeding in spadderdock on the PG side, down river from Jackson Landing. When I got home later, it had thankfully moved up river a bit and was perched up on a pole where I could still see and count it for a yard bird!

Also, in regard to my earlier post from today, I also listened again for the Kentucky Warbler reported from the park entrance road on Monday eve, but I did not hear it. I think it is likely that it has moved on.

Cheers!
