There were some new birds around the Tidal Basin, Lincoln Memorial and Constitution Gardens:
Tidal Basin: both Barn swallows and Rough-winged swallows are here, and seem to be territorial.
FDR Memorial: Catbirds and Eastern Kingbirds are new.
Constitution Gardens: manyWhite-throated sparrows (no juncos), Yellow-rumped warblers and a pair of Blue-gray gnatcatchers.

The exciting news is that the Park Service is draining the Constitution Gardens pond. While this seems to have forced out the few remaining Ring-necked ducks, the smelly, goose-poop laden muck may well attract shorebirds!!! It has in the past. Alas, there were none today, but I think the draining just started (a crew was there on lunch break).

I'll be checking back,

Jim
