While checking out some of our feeders, I noticed a flash of white and black in the neighbor's yard. The red-headeds must be moving through. This striking adult male Red-headed Woodpecker was quite active, hawking from a pine tree. I got a distant---but still adequate---picture after it flew to another tree. Check out the link below:

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Red Headed Woodpecker in Northern Anne Arundel County and Whip Poor Will at Soldiers Delight
I got quite the surprise thismorning about 20minutes when I walked out the back
door into the yard and flushed an adult Red Headed Woodpecker. Since I live in
a residential area this quite a surprise. I watched him for a ittle while as he
flew back and forth in the oak trees, perching and looking for insects. I am
guessing that it is a migrant but if he wants to set up shop here for the summer
we'll be glad to have him.
One Whip poor will at Soldiers Delight at 1015 pm last night, he responded back
almost immediately to my very poor whip poor will imitation.
