eBird flagged Northern Shoveler and Short-billed Dowitcher in Anne Arundel County as rare in May, so I thought I'd pass along information about where to look for these at Oxbow Lake. They were both seen twice yesterday on the east side of the peninsula that juts into the lake from the north side. Especially, look near the "outlet channel" which the beavers have done a great job with their dam. In fact, this is the area in which all the sandpipers and snipe are hanging out.
Your best looks would be from the "future platform" and "SE Observation Point" sites. If you would like a map of the Oxbow that describes the landmarks mentioned, just send me an email message.
