I went in search of shorebirds at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this
morning and was surprised to find an adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron
calmy standing in the ponds. It was also seen perched in the low
branches of a tree in the pond area. It was easily viewable, and I
passed within 10 feet along the narrow paths in the cell area without
flushing the bird.

Also of note was a Marsh Wren seen on the little marsh adjacent to the
west side of the cells. Both were DC firsts for me. A Warbling Vireo
was also a FOY bird.

The shorebird list includes:

8 Solitary Sandpipers
1 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Lesser Yellowlegs

No Spotted Sandpipers, though these have been in abundance recently.
And yesterday evening, a helicopter flushed ~20 Least Sandpipers that
were seen from the Kemilworth Park marsh viewpoint.

Good birding,
