Hi Everyone,

I enjoyed the WILSON'S PHALAROPE found by Dave Powell at Swan Creek with Joe Hanfman, Matt Hafner, and Tim Carney. It was foraging with a mixed flock of shorebirds in the closest section of the north dredge cell, a gorgeous breeding female. It was tough to continue scanning the cells because it was far too enjoyable to watch her distinctive, spinning foraging style. A memorable sight!

At one point I looked up and for a moment had the common impression of "Oh, here comes a Great Blue with its neck outstretched," but no, this was the real deal. For maximum silliness, I somehow composed myself to remark casually that here comes a Sandhill Crane. Despite my goofing around, that was a major thrill. It came from the west, over the building complex, and flew east over the north dredge cell and toward the Key Bridge. I took many photos of it in flight as it headed north, and it appeared to land somewhere south and west of the bridge. I would think that the grassy entrance area near Fort Armistead would be a good place to check, and I wouldn't be surprised if it returned to Swan Creek proper. We later learned that Tim Carney and two others down in the mitigated wetland saw the bird as well.

Thanks to Dave Powell for finding the Wilson's Phalarope, and to Swan Creek for the continued access for the birding community. Both the phalarope and the crane were new species for the property!
