It is 6:16 am and I am sitting at the computer reading emails and drinking
coffee. The window is open and I am just vaguely aware of the usual ...
Catbirds, Cedar Waxwings, Blue Grosbeak ... but then the brain starts
telling me that something is different ... Swainson's Thrush. It is still
singing - over and over and over. I am so excited I may even wake up my
wife. No wait, when I ask her what does she hear, she will say Scarlet
Tanager, which is her standard answer to any bird song question that I ask.
Better let her sleep and I will enjoy this unbelievable song alone. Maybe
it will still be singing when she gets up. The answer will still be Scarlet
Tanager.
