Hi Gail.

Unless we somehow begin to reverse habitat destruction, building collisions, etc. both here and in Latin America migration seasons will be worse year by year.

I sometimes wonder how much birders (present company excluded!) support real on the ground conservation?  What's your feeling about this - do you think there's enough meaningful support in the birding community for conservation?  Sometimes I assume virtually all birders give generously to conservation groups and support them politically, but I know others suspect most birders bird and it ends there.

That may be true but we should also have them here, and do not -- this is the worst spring I can recall for migrants and we have been to a number of sites on days that should have been favorable (southerly winds overnight, clear night) and found very little activity.

I think I know where your Blackpolls are: DC!  I walk to work and have gotten about 2-5 a day over the last 2 weeks or so...
