Hi all,

Despite the nice weather, pretty quiet at both Wheaton Regional Park and Sligo Park (north of University Blvd.) this morning. Breeding species are certainly present, but there was essentially no evidence of migration. Usually by now I am hearing Blackpolls everywhere as I drive around the neighborhood but I doubt if I've heard more than 6 this spring. if that. Never had one of those mornings this spring where there are so many migrants singing that you don't know where to start. A bit disappointing and also, a bit worrisome.

Best birds at Wheaton (including Brookside Gardens) were: Green Heron, heard-only Yellow-throated Vireo, multiple Baltimore Orioles, as well as local breeders such as Acadian and Great Crested FC, Wood Thrush, Yellowthroat, Ovenbird etc. A heard Swainson's and several Redstarts were about the only migrants. At Sligo, we were pleased to see the VEERIES back (they have bred here for decades) but again, little evidence of migration. Most interesting birds included a pair of Eastern Kingbirds, locally-breeding Wood Thrushes, Acadian and Great Crested FCs, and two migrants -- a singing Black-throated Blue (seen) and a singing Blackpoll (not seen).
