This morning at Blockhouse Point on the C&O Canal, we heard (but did not see) what we thought was a Summer Tanager (calling, not singing); this would be a first-ever for me at this location, or in the county.

Went out this morning on River Rd and other parts of the county.

Highlights were:

Summer Tanager - one, possibly two birds. Female first seen on shoulder of River Rd c 350 yards before Summit Hall Turf Farm entrance and gave very good looks. It was spooked by a car but remained in the area, calling frequently. Driving on another 150 yards I heard another Summer Tanager calling but could not see it. It might've been the same bird but I doubt it given the distance. I've seen them in DC several times but can't recall seeing on in the county.

Dickcissel - continuing male on Westerley Rd at last year's spot.

Vesper Sparrow - one singing further along Westerley Rd right next to 20500.

Blue Grosbeak - several locations along River Rd.

Good birding
