It’s not often that we get a new yard bird in our small backyard in Bethesda. This morning Jim stepped out on the deck and spotted a sparrow at our bird bath. Getting it in the binoculars he realized it was a Lincoln’s Sparrow. It hung around the bird bath for several minutes and was briefly joined by a Song Sparrow, making for nice comparison views for both of us. Reading the Voice of Naturalist report that Norm posted today, and checking eBird, we realized Lincoln’s Sparrow is not very common, so we feel doubly fortunate to have it as a yard bird.

Jim also saw a Lincoln’s Sparrow at Hughes Hollow in the McKee-Besher’s Wildlife Management Area on Friday, May 11, while doing his birdathon that day.
