I arrived at Violette's Lock just as Evelyn was leaving - around 10:00. I had a funny experience of having a Waterthrush land on the towpath about 50 feet in front of me. The bird was walking away from me so I couldn't see the eyebrow or neck pattern and I forgot to check which way it was swinging its tail (an action that was so ably demonstrated by Mike Bowen at our April MBC meeting).

My son was visiting for the weekend with his California friend. I pointed out a mature Bald Eagle very high in the sky. She later saw it crashing out from a tree just yards in front of us. I only saw the back and white tail. Of course, she was delighted with seeing a Northern Cardinal in addition to a Louisiana Waterthrush that we saw land in a high branch and sing loud and clear.
