Hi Anna,
I also had a friend visiting from California, but just very briefly on Friday evening. He had brought his son in for a soccer tournament in Boyds for the weekend. Anyway, while walking around our yard before dinner on Friday, they were both very pleased with seeing Northern Cardinals in the yard (big, bold, and bright red; hard to miss) too. Funny what we take for granted!

Have a great holiday!

My son was visiting for the weekend with his California friend. I pointed out a
ature Bald Eagle very high in the sky. She later saw it crashing out from a
ree just yards in front of us. I only saw the back and white tail. Of course,
he was delighted with seeing a Northern Cardinal in addition to a Louisiana
aterthrush that we saw land in a high branch and sing loud and clear.

I arrived at Violette's Lock just as Evelyn was leaving - around 10:00. I had a
unny experience of having a Waterthrush land on the towpath about 50 feet in
ront of me. The bird was walking away from me so I couldn't see the eyebrow or
eck pattern and I forgot to check which way it was swinging its tail (an action
hat was so ably demonstrated by Mike Bowen at our April MBC meeting).
