Hi All,

In case this is of interest to any of you B95, the 20+ year old Red Knot rufa (aka Moonbird) was spotted by Argentinean researcher and a good friend of mine Patricia Gonzalez this morning at Reed's Beach, NJ. I believe Patricia got a digi-scoped photo that I will forward as soon as I receive it. She says he is very plump and healthy looking.

If any of you are in the area keep an eye out for him. He has a smallish, faded, orange flag (from 1995) that read B95. If you can't see the flag look for the combination of an orange band on the left lower leg, a metal band on the upper right leg and a black band on the lower right leg. This combination is distinctive as B95 is the only bird that has these bands from his multiple (4) captures in Argentina.

This is especially exciting as a new book by award winning author Phil Hoose (featuring profiles on Patricia, myself and some other shorebird biologists and conservationists) follows B95 to describe the plight of the Red Knot. The book is called "B95: A Year on the Wind with the Great Survivor". It gets its title from the fact that B95 has flown enough miles to have gone to the moon and halfway back in his remarkably long life (normal lifespan is 5 years). It comes out in July but can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.

Phil and Patricia and I as well as the NJ and DE shorebird teams have been in NJ and DE looking for B95 all month now to confirm that he is still alive. It is truly amazing that he is!! What an incredible survivor.
