I got to the park just after dawn this morning to enjoy the rather high tides.
With high hopes for some post-storm birds, I was a little surprised to find no shorebirds or terns. However, the regular gulls were present in decent numbers.
What's more, the beach feeders were being filled. By that I mean there were 75-100 horseshoe crabs strewn about the beach and in the water.
I walked the length of the beach flipping crabs. By the time I reached the Southern end, I turned around to see that all of the horseshoe crabs had successfully made it back out into the bay. That made my day.
And it was a welcome change from yesterday morning, when the beach was littered with hundreds of dead fish.
Of note lately:
Friday AM:
1 - Dunlin
10 - Semi Sandpiper
1 - Semi Plover
Saturday AM:
-a continuing HORNED GREBE, between the Main and the East Beach. -Eight male Mallards. Mallards have been scarce at the park lately, so I consider their presence noteworthy.
Good Birding,
