Hi All,

First of all, wow! The past few days have been pretty amazing, but today took the cake by far. It reminded me why fall is my favorite season, especially for birding.

This morning I ran to the window upon hearing a RED-BREASTED NUTHACTH calling from the backyard. A handsome spunky new yardbird; great way to start off the day! Also in that tree were a trio of BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, a RED-EYED VIREO and several YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS.

After school, I did my homework and then grabbed my binocs and camera and literally ran to the park because I'd been tortured by watching ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS flying around all day. I was glad I did because I ended up with thirty-nine species in just under two hours. Some highlights included:

Half a dozen SWAINSON'S THRUSHES and a pair of WOOD THRUSHES and a nice BROWN THRASHER near the community gardens. Further on in the trees by the Casino I ran into a flock of several PEWEES, LEAST FLYCATCHERS and PHOEBES. They were accompanied by DOWNY and RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS and some SAPSUCKERS. In another nearby tree several YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and REDSTARTS were busy feeding. At the lake itself I got my first sparrow of the season, a LINCOLN'S. Easily among my favorite birds. Rounding out the trip was a female BELTED KINGFISHER and a truly stunning male WOOD DUCK. I almost died I was so happy to see one back after so long.

Good Birding Everyone!
