Subject: [MDBirding] Kinglets!

Kinglets! Kinglets! All around! I went up to the Sweathouse Branch/Wildlands Loop of the Big Gunpowder and stood at the edge of the parking lot looking toward the river and into the weeds and scrub. It was filled with dozens of Kinglets--Golden-crowned (16 at least), and Ruby-crowned (20) too. I stood still for a long time and they came so close, cocking their tiny heads and eyeing me. There were as many as ten within seven feet at any given time. Many more in the saplings. They gorged on bugs and chased each other and chattered. The Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (3) and a Common Yellow-throat must have felt outnumbered. Several Red-breasted Nuthatches (4) "anking" in the woods. Wood Thrushes (4) moving through too.
