Subject: [MDBirding] Red-headed Woodpecker @ Patuxent NWR South Tract

I spent 20 min. this afternoon watching a Red-headed Woodpecker racing Blue Jays for fallen food (nuts?) and caching it in trees between the Visitor Center and Lake Redington at Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge South Tract.

By standing at this point of the paved trail

it did over a dozen close flyovers between the adjacent trees, never flying out of sight.
