While skywatching at first light from my driveway, all of a sudden a noisy flock of 8 WW Crossbills burst out of the spruce trees directly behind me (across from my barn) and disappeared in the direction of the Howard County Conservancy to the south. About ten minutes later a flock of 4 flew over directly from the east. I don't know if these were part of the original flock or not.
