A couple images of the Spotted Sandpiper found by John Dennehy on Saturday, April 14, about 4:40pm.

I was standing at the fence near the Gazebo in the park. I first spotted the bird on the mud flats on the far end (toward Greenspring Ave). The bird started walking very quickly along the shore, walking right past me. It walked so fast (and somewhat erratically) that most of my images were somewhat motion blurred. I then tried to get ahead of it because it was now in the late day light. I moved twice, a short distance, and it flew the same distance in order to thwart me. The 3rd time it flushed to the other side (toward the strip center) to the muddy shore line where it sat quietly for a while. It made it clear that that was all I was to get :-).
Another birder came along a few minutes later and told me that he also saw it yesterday (but not sure what it was), and saw it fly over to the rocky south side.
In other news, I spent most of the day staking out a small terrace in my back yard salted with bird seed to shoot a fairly elusive Fox Sparrow. While I was doing that I noticed a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches investigating a few cavities. After one of them tooted almost continuously for at least 5 minutes or so, they then proceeded to start bringing in material to build a nest. Mostly tree bark chips, but also some soft material. So I have a new spring project :-). I'll post a link on the Facebook page when I get done with those. Never seen that before.
