I thought I saw sufficient morphological detail to specifically identify it, but its rarity in this area raises some reasonable questions. If the wind falls by tomorrow, I'll go back equipped to photograph it, if it is reasonably close, and to call a buddy if it appears that a second person would have viewing opportunity.
