Edna,

I believe someone else has posted the directions you requested, but 
you should look for a copy of Claudia Wilds' book Finding Birds in 
the National Capital Area.  This classic has directions to a lot of 
birding sites that you will hear mentioned over and over again on 
MDOsprey and will let you expand your local horizons quite 
extensively!

The book was published by Smithsonian Press and should be availabel 
at any local birding shop or at the Smithsonian Museum bookstores.
