Thanks to Roger and Andy for the dickcissel report the other day. This morning (Sat.), I went out to the Lilypons Rd/Rte. 85 intersection and instantly heard a singing male, which I shortly found. He was singing atop tall weeds (like ragweed) in a long strip of rank vegetation that parallels 85 and is perpendicular to Lilypons Rd. If you're standing on Lilypons Rd. coming from Lilypons, look and listen to the right (to the north) not far from (east of) the 85 intersection. I saw him from about 8 to 8:20 a.m. He worked his way down the strip and out of sight (though he could still be heard). Another sang not far past him, though it was too far off to see from the road. A neighborhood vesper sparrow also popped up for a close view. Howard Youth Rockville, MD hmyouth@erols.com
