With reference to the MD Monks, I did see the ones up in the railroad structure over by Holy Cross hospital. I don't have the dates with me, but if it is of help, I can try to locate them (or it - I odubt I wrote more than the initial observation!) It was near the end of their tenure as I recall. Let me know if you want it, and I'll try to find it. On another topic, I don't recall the Spencerville Hoary Redpoll on your list of accepted records. This was a bird at a friend's feeder which many saw, and some photographed. Chan saw it, and Kathy Klimkiewicz was there too. I have a soso photo, but I do not know if it can definitively document the bird. If there is any interest in thei, let me know too. Back in the 70's or 80's (before my time ... birding, that is) there used to be at least one colony in Maryland. My knowledge of the history of this species in the state is virtually nil, so I'd like to ask for inputs and recollections from anyone who has seen Monks in Maryland. Facts, figures, anecdotes, etc. are all welcome.
WARNING ... this request will open up a topic that some will find unpleasant ... Monks are "considered" by some to be agricultural pests and in the past Maryland, as well as other states, did conduct an eradication program.
Feel free to respond privately.
Thx.
