There was a very good flight of migrants at Rock Creek Park, DC, including some star birds: CLAY-COLORED SPARROW (1) -- Maintenance Yard Philadelphia Vireo (1) -- Ridge Rd. Least Flycatcher (1) -- Maintenance Yard Other species included Blackburnian, Black and White, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Blackpoll, Bay-breasted, Blue-winged, Canada, Cape May, Chestnut-sided, Kentucky, Magnolia, Nashville, Parula, Prairie, Tennessee, Worm-eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Yellowthroat, Red-eyed Vireo, Acadian, "Traill's and Great-crested Flycatchers, Eastern Wood-pewee, Eastern Phoebe, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, Veery, Swainson's and Wood Thrushes, Indigo Bunting, Cedar Waxwings, Ruby throated Hummingbird. One of the latter was found dead, fatally caught by the prickley fruit of a burdock. We also had two Cuckoos fly over, but not sure of species (probably Yellow-billed). Bill Dobbins is the proud finder of the Clay-colored Sparrow, which we think is the fifth record for DC. Gail Mackiernan Silver Spring, MD gail@umdd.umd.edu
