I seem to remember a segment of Maryland Outdoors (PBS) a number of years ago about the vulture plague of Deep Creek Lake in Western MD. It seems that the birds were roosting on the pontoon boats, and when they vomited on the in/outdoor carpeting on the boat decks, the HCL in their stomachs dissolved the nylon carpeting. I can't remember if they found a deterrent or not.
