Rob,
 The Merlin near my shop was seen (by me, at least) most recently on
Wednesday, both in the AM and twice in the PM (around 8:20 & at 3:57 & again
at 4:03) perched in a tall tulip poplar across the street. In the PM hours, it
sat perched just before 4 o 'clock and then took off heading basically west.
Then it reappeared just after 4, perched a few moments, then took off heading
easterly. It seems to actively hunt near dusk, when you saw it/one. I wonder
what size territory it ranges over while here for the winter, and why so many
are around this year.
