For those in the northern/eastern and adjacent suburbs of Washington and such, I find that taking Route 4 east from the Beltway and following it through Calvert County to Rte 235, then 'doubling back' on Rte. 235 north/west the 8 miles toward Mechanicsville, provides a pleasant ride that avoids the many traffic lights and all of the sprawl near Waldorf. It may even take less time than going on Route 5! Plus, you have the added bonus of avoiding a few miles of the Capitol Beltway. --Take Rt. 4 south/east from the Beltway (I forget how the direction is labeled) toward Upper Marlborough. Follow the road in to Calvert County where it joins up with Route 2. Stay on Rt. 4 at Solomons and proceed on the high bridge over the Patuxent River. Continue until you reach Rt. 235. At Rt. 235, turn right so as to head west/north for about 8 miles. Turn right (north) on South Sandgates Road. Follow this road roughly two miles until you see the two restaurants, the Seabreeze and the Sandgate, on your right. Do note the "Harley Parking Only. All others will be crushed" sign. People coming from Annapolis or further north could find Route 2 somewhere up near Baltimore (hopefully on a map, first), and follow Route 2 south until it hits Route 4.
